about me:
the surRogate
Wife. Mother. Nurse. Runner.
I am a 34 year old wife to Jeremy and mother to three beautiful and mostly well behaved kids. Zoe is 8 and is our oldest , she is in third grade and loves to run both cross country and track. She loves being social and making new friends and also loves being the oldest. Ellie is our 7 year year old middle child, she is in second grade and also loves to run as well as loves gymnastics. She is our wild one yet is honestly the sweetest girl you could ever meet, and is probably the most excited one about the surrobaby. Cody is our baby who just turned 4 and is the perfect third child. He is sweet and loving and absolutely loves to “muggle” with the rest of us. Although having 3 can be challenging I wouldn’t trade it for the world and feel so blessed to be their mother, although after 3 I feel completely done with having my own kids.
When I’m not at home with my own kids I’m a school nurse at both a high school and elementary school. Before becoming a school nurse I worked as an oncology nurse, pediatric nurse and then a postpartum nurse. I can honestly say they all had their challenges but I am blessed that I really did enjoy each specialty for different reasons. School nursing is really where I wanted to end up so I am happy to finally be doing what I went to nursing school for, plus I get summers and holidays off which is a bonus!
As if all of this isn’t enough I also run with any spare time that I get, which sometimes is at 4 or 5 am! Before this surrogacy journey I ran two back to back marathons and of course a few smaller races, I think I packed it all in knowing I may have to take a few weeks or months off. My goal is to run as much as I can pregnant but if I can’t I know it will always be there for me later! I did however run until 37 weeks with Cody so I’m hoping I can do the same this time because I do think it is better for my health and the growing baby’s health as well, plus my sanity needs it!
As for how I decided to be a surrogate. I can’t really say there was a certain moment or event that made me want to do it, it’s really just something I’ve always wanted to do. My twin sister and I both always said that if one of us couldn’t get pregnant that we would have a baby for each other. Obviously since we are both surrogates we didn’t have that problem. After having kids of my own and smooth pregnancies I decided it was time to try to help other families grow and enjoy the same blessings that I have with a house full of love and laughter. Children really are a blessing, even if at times parenting is not always the easiest job.
